How Do Things Work?

Explore the mechanisms inside everyday objects through observations and simple models.

Pick a question to explore together. Find readings, hands-on discoveries, and printable sheets inside.

Around the House

Watch a zipper join and separate its teeth. Try a paper model and explore what the little slider does.

Explore a familiar flush through reading and a clean-water model, with no tank opening or repairs.

Notice what changes with each click, test a simple model, and explore the parts that keep a pen tip in place.

Compare shapes and try a fictional paper lock. Explore why a match matters without opening a real lock.

Compare falling paper, build a small parachute, and explore how air can change a fall.

Explore balance and steering with safe, supported observations and a tabletop model. No riding needed.
