Curiosity Bundle
A straight pencil takes a strange turn at the waterline.
Start with a look from the side. Follow that small surprise into light bending and a water lens that can turn an arrow around.
Offer one puzzle and leave room for a first idea.
Offer one puzzle. Leave room for a guess.
Place a pencil in a clear cup of water. Ask, "It looked straight a moment ago. What do you notice now?"
Let your child inspect the pencil in water, then lift it out. Ask, "How could both of those views belong to the same pencil?"
A straight straw works too. Use a clear container chosen by an adult, away from electronics.
Look, guess and sketch before reading. Keep the first version.
