Notice & predict
Make two orders
Draw size and value orders.
Curiosity Bundle
The smaller coin buys more. Two different orders reveal the puzzle.
Compare size with value, then follow the coins back to their different metal histories. US coins are helpful; labeled paper disks work too.
Show the puzzle. Give your child room to wonder.
Offer one puzzle. Leave room for a guess.
Set a US dime beside a nickel. Ask, "Which is bigger? Which is worth more? Why would those answers differ?"
Draw a small circle labeled dime, 10 cents, and a larger one labeled nickel, 5 cents. Ask, "Would you put these in the same order for size and money?"
Use the labeled paper pair. These are comparison drawings, not copies of coins.
Keep a first guess before the readings.
Notice & predict
Draw size and value orders.
Both readings belong here. Share them across short sittings if you like.
Record what happens, then compare the game with the wider idea.
Investigation
Order coins or paper disks twice.
Revisit the readings and your first guess. Use the separate parent key for conversation.
A light check
Revisit value history and evidence.
Local review edition. Physical activities, diagrams, and family usability still need review. Times are estimates. See the parent guide for each activity’s safety instructions and model limits.
