About Apostrophes
What this skill is
Apostrophes are punctuation marks (') used for two distinct grammatical purposes: showing ownership in possessive nouns (the girl's book, the dogs' bone) and replacing omitted letters in contractions (is not -> isn't, they are -> they're). When children learn it
Basic contractions (can't, don't) and singular possessive apostrophes ('s) are introduced in 2nd grade.
