Articles are special limiting adjectives (a, an, the) that introduce nouns in sentences. The indefinite articles "a" and "an" refer to non-specific singular items ("a cat", "an apple"), with "an" used before vowel sounds. The definite article "the" specifies a particular item ("the red car"). Understanding articles builds grammatically correct noun phrases, phonetic speech fluency, article selection accuracy, noun modifiers, syntax precision, and oral phrasing across reading, dictation, early writing, and grammar exercises.
