About Polygons
What this skill is
Polygons are closed 2D shapes made entirely of straight line segments. Students classify polygons by side count (triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, octagons) and regular vs irregular form.
When children learn it
Polygon classification is taught in 2nd through 5th grade, aligned to 2.G.A.1 and 3.G.A.1.
